ATLANTA, Ga. – The Wofford College men's tennis team opened the spring season at Georgia Tech on Monday with a pair of matches. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Terriers 7-0 in the first match and 7-0 in the second match at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
In the first match, the Yellow Jackets won the doubles point by taking matches at the #3 and #1 positions with the match at #2 doubles unfinished. In the singles matches, Georgia Tech earned straight-set wins at the #3, #6, #1, and #2 positions. At the #5 position,
Jack Burdell lost the first set 6-1 and responded with a 6-3 win in the second set before falling 6-4 in the third set. In the #4 singles match,
Daniel Clivio dropped the first set 6-2 and won the second set 6-4. In the third set tiebreaker, Krish Arora of Georgia Tech posted a 10-4 win to claim the match.
During the second match, Georgia Tech won the #1 and #3 doubles matches each by a 6-2 score. The #2 doubles team of
Hugo Rask and
Owen Dooley was tied at 3-3 before being unfinished with the duo trailing 4-3.
In singles, the Yellow Jackets earned straight-set wins at the #6, #5, #3, #4, and #1 positions. At #2 singles,
Jack Deveney lost a close first set 7-5 and won the second set 6-3 before falling 10-4 in the third set tiebreaker.
Wofford will host Queens on Saturday, January 25, at 1:00 p.m. in the home opener at the Reeves Tennis Center.
