Volleyball Loses to ETSU

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford volleyball team fell 3-0 to the ETSU Bucs on Friday night inside of Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. The Terriers are now 9-10, 5-3, while ETSU improves to 13-5, 7-0.

ETSU finished the night with 45 kills at a .280 rate compared to 31 from the Terriers. Wofford took the edge in service aces, however, as the team closed the night with 10 while the Bucs had seven. Wofford also finished with more blocks, rejecting eight attempts to ETSU's six.

Chloe Smith paced the team with nine kills while Ella Coleman recorded six. Taylor Pecht led the group with 13 assists. Maddy Frazier added 12. Laney Klika tied her season high of three service aces, and Maddy Frazier and Chloe Smith tallied two apiece. Bradley Brown and Annemarie Rakoski led the charge at the net, totaling 2.5 and 2.0 blocks each, respectively.

Set one saw ETSU take an early 5-2 lead, but Wofford used five-straight points to take its first lead of the night, 7-6. The Terriers kept the lead for several minutes, going up 12-9 after a Chloe Smith kill. The Bucs regained the advantage for a few rallies, but Wofford would lead 18-15 powered by a four-point run. The Terriers could not hold on, however, losing set one 25-23.

Shortly after the start of set two, Wofford found itself up 4-2 due to a pair of ETSU attacking errors. The Terriers would hold that lead until the Bucs rattled off five consecutive points, earning their first lead of the stanza, 14-10. Despite ETSU holding match-point with Wofford only at 20 points, the Terriers fought back and tied it at 24-all. The comeback fell short, however, with the Bucs taking set two 26-24.

Wofford took the lead to start the final set of the match, going up 3-1 with a service error from ETSU helping the team out. It was back-and-forth from there as both teams traded leads. ETSU finally found a little bit of breathing room after an 8-1 run allowed the team to take an 18-11 lead. Wofford could not come back from there, losing set three 25-19 and the match 3-0.

The Terriers will be back in action on Thursday, October 23, as the team will travel to Western Carolina with first serve set for 6:00 PM. The match can be livestreamed on ESPN+.
