Wofford Men’s Soccer Drops Points at UNC Greensboro

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's soccer team (5-8-1, 1-2-0 SoCon) dropped its second consecutive SoCon match to the UNC Greensboro Spartans (9-2-3, 2-1-0 SoCon), 0-3, on Saturday night in a packed UNCG Soccer Stadium. This marks the first of three straight away games for the Terriers.

The Terriers returned to the field in a 4-2-3-1 formation. The starters included Pepe Hinterschuster in goal, Jakob Andersson, Gavin Lewis, Adam Celik and Mikey Hernandez along the back line. Edvin Langdaahl, Max Talley and Kalle Rahbek made up the midfield. Stewart Patnaud, Samuel Byron and Nathan Simes filled out the forwards.

First Half
The Spartans put the pressure on early with three corners and three shots within ten minutes. UNCG almost found the first goal in the 13th minute, finding an attacker behind who was able to lay a square ball across for an open goal. The original pass behind the back line was called offside before the celebrations could start. Wofford continued to hold off the Spartans' assault as Enzo Dovlo broke the deadlock in the 29th minute, pushing him to be the SoCon point-leader.

The Terriers seemed to be on the backfoot for most of the half, and the stat sheet reflected that. Wofford had zero shots to UNCG's six. The Spartans also had three corners while the Terriers had none. Both teams had three fouls. Hinterschuster had two saves in the half.

Second Half
Wofford settled into the match in the first part of the half, seeming to have closer to 50 percent possession. UNCG stayed a threat, especially on the counter. The Spartans almost found a second goal as a winger made a deep run to get into the box, but Hinterschuster came up with the save.

In the 64th minute, Gavin Lewis brought the Spartan forward down in the box to get himself a yellow card. After a video assisted review, the call was upgraded to a red card. UNCG went on to place the penalty to the bottom right, sending Hinterschuster the wrong way.

The Spartans controlled possession after Wofford went down a man. None of their chances seemed to come to anything, but they found the net with just over one minute left in the game. UNCG had control of the stat sheet, having 15 shots to Wofford's one, six corners to two and ten fouls to seven. Hinterschuster finished with three saves on the night.
