First Half
The first ten minutes saw little action, with each team taking one shot and a corner for Wofford. The Terriers began to slowly amp up the pressure, moving the ball into the Wake Forest half. A botched clearance gave Wofford the first clear chance of the game, a drilled shot from Rahbek, but the Demon Deacons' keeper was able to push the ball over the bar.
Wake Forest responded with its own pressure, controlling most of the possession for the next 15 minutes. Despite the pressure, the Terriers kept it difficult for the ACC team but maintaining a compact defensive structure.
The teams went into the locker rooms in a deadlock. Both teams had four shots, Wofford with the only shot on goal. The Demon Deacons had four corners to the Terriers two. Wofford had six fouls to Wake Forest's five. The real difference was in possession, as the Demon Deacons held 62 percent.
Second Half
Wake Forest struck early in the half. The original effort off a corner routine from the Demon Deacons came to naught, the second phase of the attack saw the ball fall to the feet of a Wake Forest midfielder. The strike was deflected off a Wofford defender and found the back of the net.
The Terriers did not wait long to respond. In the 52nd minute,
Max Talley and
Declan Mettee combined on the wing to serve a ball into the box. That ball found the head of
Kalle Rahbek, who flicked the ball toward the back post for the tying goal. Five minutes later, Jacob Andersson switched the ball to
Max Talley. Dribbling the ball into the midfield, he found
Sam Diebold on the winger. Diebold took one touch into the box and was able slip the ball through the Wake Forest keeper's legs, 2-1.
Wake Forest did not waver, pushing into the Terrier half numerous times through the half. The Deacons almost found the equalizer on three separate occasions, the closest being a shot that hit the crossbar in the 78th minute. Finally, in the 80
th minute, that goal came as a midfielder found space at the top of the box, placing a shot to the bottom left corner, just past the fingers of Hinterschuster.
The teams walked away with a point each. The Deacons held the shot advantage 12-7, but Wofford put more on frame, 3-2. Wake Forest had six more corners in the half, while the Terriers had zero. Wofford was more physical, grabbing 16 fouls and four yellow cards to Wake Forest's 11 fouls and one yellow card.
