First Half
Furman looked to control the game early, being patient in possession for openings in the Terrier defense. The Paladins had three strong chances within the first five; a corner that was headed just wide, and two quick transition moments that fell short of the mark. Wofford's high press produced some promising chances as well. While the opportunities did not result in shots per se, it showed the Terriers were ready for a fight.
Around the 18
th minute, possession began to even out between the teams. One of Wofford's strongest chances in the half came from this increase in possession. Andersson used his pace to beat the press, finding Talley in the midfield. Using his dribbling, he was able to avoid the tackles of the ensuing Paladins, creating room to dish a pass aimed at Diebold, but it was just behind his run, and the Paladins cleared the ball.
The teams looked to enter halftime deadlocked, but the Paladins found their breakthrough goal in the 43rd minute. The ball was flicked on by two separate attackers, finally finding the feet of Wilfer Bustamante, who was able to find the far-left corner.
The main difference maker in the half seemed to be possession, 58-42, in favor of Furman. The Terriers led in corners and saves, both 2-1. The Paladins had the advantage in shots, 8-6, with three on target to Wofford's one.
Second Half
The Terriers came out of the half with control of possession for the first ten minutes. This was not just in the defensive half but putting pressure on the Furman backline. The Terriers had two shots and a corner in that time. Wofford continued to hold more possession throughout the half.
In the 68th minute, Wofford looked to get the ball out of their box, playing it on the ground through the midfield. Slightly too eager, a Terrier midfielder played the ball behind the run and Furman intercepted the pass. Playing a ball into the forward, Diego Hernandez, had the space to turn and shoot from 25 yards out, right over Hinterschuster for a second Paladin goal.
The mentality of the Terriers never faltered, but Furman regained its earlier possession control. The Paladins continued to push for a third goal, not settling into possession with their two-goal buffer, but nothing came of it. Wofford finished the game with a shot advantage, 14-11, but only had two on target, to Furman's four.
