Pulley Named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Monday, the Southern Conference Football Players of the Week presented by Southern Recognition were awarded for all games played on Nov. 8. Chattanooga quarterback Battle Alberson was named the Offensive Player of the Week, Wofford safety Maximus Pulley was named the Defensive Player of the Week and Mercer kicker Reice Griffith was named the Special Teams Player of the Week. The awards are selected by the league office.

Pulley, a fifth-year senior from Fort Worth, Texas, had a pair of interceptions at VMI on Saturday, with one returned 50 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. The other interception was returned to the 28-yard line, setting up a Wofford field goal in the first quarter. He added five tackles in the victory. Among national leaders, Pulley is one of only five players to have two interception returns for a touchdown this season, and he is ranked fourth in total interceptions with four.

This is the second Player of the Week honor of his career, and it is the fourth Defensive Player of the Week honor for the team this season. He is the first player in the conference to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks this season. Pulley is also the first Terrier to earn back-to-back awards since Joe Newman was Offensive Player of the Week back-to-back weeks in 2019.

Wofford will visit The Citadel on Saturday, November 10, at 2:00 p.m.
