SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over Coastal Carolina on Friday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers won the doubles point and then claimed four of the six singles matches to remain undefeated on the season.
"To miss several days of practice this week due to the rain and to come out and compete the way we did is truly amazing," said head coach
Krissy Hall. "This was a total team effort and I could not be more proud!"
To begin the doubles matches, Coastal Carolina earned a 6-1 win at the #1 position. The #2 doubles pair of
Breda Brennan and
Emma Sorensen took a 4-1 lead and were up 5-2 when they broke serve for the 6-2 win. At #3 doubles,
Chloe Elliott and
Brianna Wilbur were down 2-3 before winning four straight sets to win 6-3 and clinch the doubles point.
In singles, Coastal Carolina won the #5 position. Wofford answered with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the #4 position by
Catherine Blouin.
Brianna Wilbur then added a 6-4, 6-3 win at the #2 position. At #3 singles,
Lily Woods won the first set 6-4 and took the second set 6-2 which secured the match for the Terriers. Coastal Carolina won 6-4, 6-4 at the #1 position. The final match to be decided was at #6 singles.
Chloe Elliott dropped the first set 3-6, won the second set 6-0, and then won the third set 6-3 to secure the match.
The match was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 12, but was postponed due to rain. Wofford improves to 4-0 on the season, while Coastal Carolina is now 1-3 overall. The Terriers will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 18, against North Greenville.
