STATESBORO, Ga. – The Wofford women's tennis team was defeated 5-2 at Georgia Southern on Saturday at the Wallis Tennis Center. The Eagles won the doubles point and then won four of the six singles matches for the win.
In doubles, the Eagles claimed the #2 position as
Breda Brennan and
Emma Sorensen earned a 6-2 win. Wofford tied the doubles point with a 6-2 win by
Chloe Elliott and
Brianna Wilbur at the #3 position. At #1 doubles,
Grace Agster and
Lily Woods were down 1-5 before coming back with three straight games to make it 4-5 before falling 4-6.
The Eagles won the first set in four of the six singles matches. After Georgia Southern earned wins at the #5 and #6 positions,
Catherine Blouin came through with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 win at the #4 position.
Lily Woods added a win at the #3 position with a 7-6, 6-2 score. At the #1 and #2 singles positions, the Eagles won the first set before
Breda Brennan and
Brianna Wilbur won both second sets. Georgia Southern then claimed the third set in both matches for a 5-2 final score.
The Terriers (5-1) will remain on the road on Tuesday, Feb. 25, as they visit Gardner-Webb for a 2:00 p.m. match. Georgia Southern improves to 7-2 on the season.
