SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Strong pitching continued to lay a foundation for the Wofford baseball team as the Terrier bats delivered a trio of round-trippers Sunday afternoon en route to an 8-1 victory over Army West Point at Russell C. King Field. Wofford improves to 6-1 as the Black Knights drop to 1-5.

For a third-straight game, the Terriers utilized only a pair of arms to success. Dyan Rhadans earned the starting nod, hurling 4.1 innings of scoreless baseball. He allowed just three hits with no walks and two punchouts.
Champ Davis (2-0) closed out the final 4.2 innings, recording the win. He allowed just a single run on four hits and two walks while matching his career high with six strikeouts.

Army starter Bryce Brownlee (0-2) suffered the loss after giving up three runs (one earned) on three hits and four walks.

The Terriers played clean defense with no errors, and Wofford capitalized on Army's four defensive miscues. Hits were even at seven apiece for the teams, but Wofford worked six walks at the dish while issuing only two on the mound.

James Layman recorded a pair of base knocks for the Terriers to lead the way.
Harrison Campi kept swinging a hot bat, clubbing his first-career home run with two RBI.
Tyler Hare and
David Wiley also blasted long balls, with Hare's a two-run shot and Wiley's solo.
Niko Brini made his first start for Wofford, collecting a hit, RBI, and a walk. He stole a base, as did
Tyler Bak and
Adam Haber.

The Terriers wasted no time getting on the board, as
Harrison Campi launched his first homer in the bottom of the first. The solo shot went 353 feet and was 98 mph off the bat for a 1-0 edge early.

From there the teams put up three consecutive scoreless frames as the contest had the early makings of a third-straight pitchers' duel. The Black Knights looked like they were poised to break through in the top of the fifth with a pair of singles and a sacrifice putting runners on second and third with one out.
Champ Davis was brought out of the bullpen, and he delivered, striking out the next two batters to exit the jam unblemished.

In the bottom of the fifth, it was Wofford who broke through.
Niko Brini opened the frame with a walk, and an error advanced him to third with runners on the corners. Campi's RBI groundout plated Brini. The next batter grounded out to advance Wynn to third, but an over-eager throw attempting to cut off Wynn sailed over the third baseman, allowing him to scurry home. The Terriers led 3-0.

Wofford added two more in the sixth.
James Layman singled, and
Tyler Hare was hit by a pitch. After a sacrifice bunt, Brini singled to second base to plate Layman. A batter later, Brini swiped second, and the catcher's throw went awry, allowing Hare to race home for the 5-0 advantage.

David Wiley opened the bottom of the seventh with a solo homer that was 100 mph and 355 feet. After
Tyler Bak walked and swiped second, Hare crushed his second home run in as many days, depositing the two-run bomb 366 feet away. The 100 mph long ball made the Terrier lead 8-0.

Army avoided the shutout with an RBI single in the top of the eighth, but it was all the Black Knights could get. Despite getting a couple of baserunners in the ninth, Davis held firm to close out the contest and secure the 8-1 Wofford win.

After the sweep, the Terriers will close out their opening eight-game homestand with a battle against UNC Asheville on Tuesday, February 25. First pitch at Russell C. King Field is set for 5:30 p.m. Wofford will then travel to Davidson for its first road contest of the season the following evening. First pitch against the Wildcats is also set for 5:30 p.m.
