Men’s Tennis Sweeps Emmanuel and Converse

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College men's tennis team earned a pair of sweeps on Saturday at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers downed Emmanuel 4-0 in the first match and added a 4-0 win over Converse in the second match.
 
"We played two good teams today," said head coach Rod Ray. "I'm proud of the resilience we showed. There were many instances where we played lights out when it mattered. I'm impressed with the players' effort today."
 
To open the day, the Terriers duo of Daniel Clivio and Jack Burdell had a 6-2 win at the #3 doubles position. Robbie Young and Jack Deveney added a 6-2 win at the #1 position to clinch the doubles point. The #2 doubles match was unfinished with Hugo Rask and Ian Rasheed leading 5-2.
 
Singles started with the Terriers earning a 6-1, 6-3 win at the #5 position by Jack Burdell. Daniel Clivio then had a 6-3, 6-3 win at the #4 position. Robbie Young won the first set 7-6 (7-5) and then won the second set 6-1 to clinch the match for the Terriers. The remaining three matches were unfinished. Jack Deveney was up 3-6, 6-3, 5-0 at the #2 position. Ian Rasheed was tied at 3-6, 6-3, 2-2 at the #3 position. At the #6 position, Hugo Rask was leading 4-2.
 
In the second match, Robbie Young and Jack Deveney started with a 6-2 win at the #1 position. Jack Burdell and Daniel Clivio had a 6-4 win at the #3 position to clinch the doubles point. The #2 doubles match was unfinished with Hugo Rask and Ian Rasheed leading 5-4.
 
Robbie Young gave Wofford an early lead in doubles with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the #1 position. At #2 singles, Jack Deveney won 6-2, 6-2. A 6-0, 6-4 victory by Daniel Clivio at the #3 position clinched the match for the Terriers. Ian Rasheed at #4 singles and Jack Burdell at #5 singles each won the first set before the second sets were unfinished. Hugo Rask's match at #6 singles was not started.
 
Wofford improves to 3-3 on the season. Emmanuel is now 3-3 overall, while the match was an exhibition for Converse. The Terriers will be back home on Tuesday, Feb. 11, against Gardner-Webb at 1:30 p.m.
