SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College men's tennis team swept North Greenville University on Tuesday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center by a 7-0 score. The Terriers won the doubles match and then took all six singles matches to win their third straight contest.
In doubles, the duo of
Daniel Clivio and
Jack Burdell won 6-0 at the #3 position. At the #1 position,
Jack Deveney and
Robbie Young had a 6-0 win that ended at exactly the same times as the #2 position that was won 6-3 by
Hugo Rask and
Ian Rasheed as the Terriers clinched the doubles point.
The singles competition began with
Daniel Clivio winning the #3 position up 6-2 when his opponent retired.
Ian Rasheed earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at the #4 position and
Jack Burdell added a 6-3, 6-1 win that clinched the overall match for the Terriers. At #1 singles,
Robbie Young had a 6-2, 6-3 victory. The lone match to go to a third set tiebreaker was at the #2 position as
Jack Deveney lost the first set 3-6, won the second set 7-6 in a 7-5 tiebreaker, and won 10-6 in the final frame.
Hugo Rask won 6-1, 6-1 at the #6 position to complete the sweep.
"Our level was excellent today," said head coach
Rod Ray. "We made good decisions on the court and played with courage.
Wofford (4-3) was scheduled to host Gardner-Webb on Wednesday, however that match has been postponed due to weather. The Terriers will be back in action on Friday, February 21, at 2:00 p.m. against Limestone.
