ASHEVILLE, N.C. – On Wednesday afternoon, the Wofford women's tennis team won a 4-3 match against UNC Asheville at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown. The Bulldogs won the doubles point, but the Terriers responded by winning four of the six singles matches to earn the win.
In doubles, the Bulldogs had wins at the #1 and #3 positions to claim the point. At the #2 position,
Catherine Blouin and
Grace Agster had a 6-3 win. It was only the third time this season the Terriers did not win the doubles point.
Breda Brennan started off singles with a 6-0, 7-6 win at the #1 position.
Catherine Blouin added a 7-5, 6-1 win at the #4 position. After the Bulldogs picked up a point at the #2 position,
Chloe Elliott had a 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 win at the #6 position to give the Terriers a 3-2 overall lead in the match. The Bulldogs made it a 3-3 match with a win at the #5 singles position. The #3 position would decide the match, with
Lily Woods dropping the first set 3-6 before winning the second set 7-6 (7-3) in a tiebreaker. In the third set, Woods had a 6-2 win that secured the win for the Terriers.
"I'm incredibly proud of how we responded after losing the doubles point," said head coach
Krissy Hall. "We showed great resilience and determination in singles and found ways to get it done. It was a great team win!"
The Terriers (10-1) will visit UNC Greensboro on Sunday, March 16, to open Southern Conference play. The 10-1 start for the Terriers is tied for the best in school history with the 2008 season. UNC Asheville is now 9-5 overall.
