CINCINNATI, Ohio – Down five goals in the second half, the Wofford College women's lacrosse team rallied for a 14-12 win over Xavier at Corcoran Field on Sunday afternoon. The Terriers trailed 11-6 with 10:27 left in the third quarter before going on an 8-1 run to close the game for the 14-12 road victory.
Carley Irvin led the Terriers with four goals – including the game-winner - and two assists for six points.
Bria Foley added three goals and one assist for four points. Seven other Terriers had one goal each in the game.
Mia Leon had four draw controls. Wofford had a 24 to 18 advantage in ground balls, with
Brooke Meltcher leading the team with five. The Terriers also had a 13 to 11 advantage in caused turnovers as
Barrett Rowe and
Brooke Meltcher had three each.
There were 65 total shots in the game with 33 by Xavier and 32 by Wofford.
Ella Smithers had 13 saves in goal, while Teegan Lannon (9) and Jada Brandon (1) combined for ten saves by the Musketeers.

The Musketeers scored a woman-up goal at 11:53 in the first quarter to take the early lead.
Emma Stalteri got the Terriers on the board at the 9:58 mark with a free position goal and
Bria Foley had a woman-up goal for a 2-1 lead thirty seconds later. After a goal by Xaiver, Wofford responded with goals by
Laura Montagna and
Carley Irvin for a 4-2 advantage. Xavier scored twice in the final three minutes to tie the game at 4-4 at the end of the first quarter.
To start the second quarter, Xavier scored twice as they took a 6-4 lead at the 9:50 mark. Wofford got a goal back with one from
Carlie Cutinella, but the Musketeers added two more goals. After a goal by
Bria Foley with under a minute to play, the half ended with the Terriers trailing 9-6.
In the third quarter, Xavier scored the first two goals to push the advantage to 11-6. Wofford answered with three straight goals by
Carley Irvin,
Ainsley Towle, and
Bria Foley to cut the lead to 11-9 with 7:12 on the clock. After neither team scored for nearly six minutes,
McKenzie Moeller scored a free position goal for the Terriers to make it an 11-10 game at the end of the quarter.
After a scoreless eight minutes to start the fourth quarter, Wofford tied the game with 7:33 on the clock with a woman-up goal by
Olivia Graebner. Less than a minute later, Xavier regained the lead at 12-11.
Izzy Woods scored the equalizer with 4:09 left in the quarter and with 2:35 left a woman-up goal by
Carley Irvin gave the Terriers a 13-12 advantage. Irvin scored again with 53 seconds remaining and Wofford was able to pick up the 14-12 road win.
Xavier is 1-6 overall. The Musketeers were led by Lola Mancuso with six goals and one assist.
Wofford (2-6) will play the next two games on the road, with a visit to Queens on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. The next home game will be on Wednesday, April 2, against Furman.
