MACON, Ga. – On Tuesday afternoon, the Wofford women's tennis team defeated Mercer 6-1 at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center to improve to 2-0 in Southern Conference play. The Terriers won the doubles point and then won five of the six singles matches.
The Bears won the #2 doubles match 6-1 and then
Breda Brennan and
Lily Woods claimed a 6-1 win at the #1 doubles position. At #3 doubles,
Brianna Wilbur and
Chloe Elliott took a 3-1 lead and earned a 6-4 win to clinch the doubles point for the Terriers.
Wofford won the first set in five of the six singles matches.
Brianna Wilbur had a 6-0, 6-1 win at the #2 position, and
Grace Agster added a 6-0, 6-4 win at the #5 position. Chloe Elliot then had a 6-4, 6-3 win at #6 singles to clinch the match for the Terriers at 4-0.
Breda Brennan had a 6-4, 6-2 win at the #1 position, and
Lily Woods posted a 7-5, 6-3 win at the #3 position. The lone match to go three sets was at the #4 position, as
Catherine Blouin won the first set 6-2 and dropped the second set 3-6. In the third set, it was tied at 4-4 before the Bears claimed a 6-4 win.
"The team competed fearlessly today," said head coach
Krissy Hall. "I am so proud of the high energy and constant fight throughout the match. It was another total team win for us!"
The Terriers (13-1, 2-0) will host ETSU on Friday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center. Mercer is 6-11 overall and 2-2 in SoCon play.
