CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Wofford College men's tennis team swept The Citadel by a 7-0 score on Saturday morning at the Earle Tennis Center. The Terriers won all three doubles matches and then won all six singles matches in straight sets for the first SoCon victory of the season.
The doubles matches began with a 6-2 win by
Daniel Clivio and
Jack Burdell at the #3 position. A 6-2 win by
Hugo Rask and
Ian Rasheed at the #2 position clinched the doubles point for the Terriers, with
Jack Deveney and
Robbie Young completing the sweep with a 6-4 win at the #1 position.
Robbie Young won the first singles match by a 6-3, 6-1 score at the #1 position.
Jack Deveney earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at the #2 position and a 6-3, 6-2 win by
Daniel Clivio at the #3 position clinched the overall match for the Terriers.
Jack Burdell added a 6-4, 6-2 win at the #5 position before
Hugo Rask added a 6-4, 6-3 win at the #6 position.
Ian Rasheed was able to secure a 7-5, 7-5 win at the #4 position to finish the singles sweep.
"We were locked in today," said head coach
Rod Ray. "Everyone did an excellent job preparing and executing solid game plans."
Wofford (6-9, 1-3) will visit Chattanooga on Saturday, April 5. The Bulldogs fall to 4-22 overall and 0-5 in SoCon play.
