LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Wofford baseball team played No. 23 Kentucky close in the early innings, but the Wildcats pulled away late to secure a 12-2 win Friday evening at Kentucky Proud Park. Wofford falls to 11-3 on the season as Kentucky improves to 11-1.

Branton Little (2-1) started for Wofford and suffered the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) in 4.0 innings of work. He struck out three.
Alec Bouchard pitched 1.2 innings of relief, and
Michael Sills faced one batter, getting a flyout.

Kentucky starter Nic McCay (3-0) picked up the win after tossing 6.0 innings with one run (unearned) allowed. He surrendered three hits and walked four.

Wofford was outhit 11-6 with the six Terrier base knocks evenly dispersed.
Hunter Herndon led the way for Wofford with two walks added onto his single for three safe trips to first. He added one of the two Terrier RBI, and
Harrison Campi notched the other.

Wofford got on the board first with a run in the top of the first. After two quick outs,
David Wiley singled, and
Adam Haber walked to put two on for Hutner Herndon. His chopper up the middle enabled Wiley to race home and score the game's first run on the infield single.

Kentucky earned a quick response in the bottom of the frame, plating four to take the lead. An RBI single was followed by a two-run double, and a sacrifice fly plated one more for the 4-1 score.

Pitching settled in for both squads, as each of the next two frames were scoreless. Kentucky tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, first with a wild pitch. The second run scored as the Terriers turned a double play, lifting the Wildcat advantage to 6-1.

The Wildcats extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double, making the margin 7-1.

Kentucky exploded in the sixth, plating five runs to stretch its lead to 12-1. Wofford got one run back in the top of the seventh with a single to center by
Harrison Campi that scored
Logan Tribble. It was all the Terriers could get, however, as the Wildcats closed out the contest and claimed a 12-2 win in seven innings.

Wofford will look to bounce back in game two of the series tomorrow afternoon. First pitch in Lexington is set for 1:00 p.m. with the contest streaming on SEC Network +.
