SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Sunday afternoon, the Wofford College men's tennis team was defeated 7-0 by Samford at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Bulldogs earned the doubles point and won all six singles matches to secure the SoCon victory.
The Bulldogs took the doubles point with a 6-0 win at the #2 position and a 6-1 win at the #3 position. The #1 doubles match for
Robbie Young and
Jack Deveney was tied at 6-6 before the Samford duo took the tiebreaker by a 7-2 score.
In the singles matches, the Bulldogs won the first set in all six matches. After wins at #2 and #3 singles, Samford clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win at the #5 position. The Bulldogs added wins at the #1 and #6 positions in straight sets as well. The lone match to go three sets was at the #4 position, as
Ian Rasheed lost the first set 2-6 and won the second set 6-4. The Bulldogs claimed the third set tiebreaker 10-2 to complete the singles sweep.
Wofford (4-6, 0-1) will continue SoCon play on Thursday, March 13, when the Terriers host East Tennessee State at 2:30 p.m. The Bulldogs are 11-4 overall and 2-0 in league play.
