SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In the final match of the regular season, the Wofford College women's tennis team earned a 5-2 win over Western Carolina on Saturday at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Catamounts won the doubles point, but the Terriers won five of the six singles matches for the win.
In doubles, the Catamounts won 6-1 at the #1 position. Wofford responded with a 6-2 win at the #2 position by
Catherine Blouin and
Emma Sorensen. The doubles point was decided at the #3 position, which was won 6-4 by the Catamounts.
Singles started with the Terriers winning the first set in four of the six matches.
Chloe Elliott won 6-2, 6-2 at the #6 position and
Grace Agster had a 6-1, 6-3 win at the #5 position. After
Catherine Blouin had a 6-4, 6-0 win at the #4 position, a 6-3, 6-2 win by
Lily Woods at the #3 position clinched the overall match for the Terriers with a 4-1 lead. The Catamounts had a 7-6 (9-7), 6-0 win at the #1 position.
Brianna Wilbur lost the first set at the #2 position, but responded by winning the second set 6-1 and the third set 7-5 to close out the 5-2 win.
"I am so proud of the way we bounced backed after losing the doubles point," said head coach
Krissy Hall. "We showed great competitiveness and resilience in our singles play. It was a great team win and an amazing way to celebrate our seniors!"
The Terriers (16-3, 5-2) will be the #3 seed in the Southern Conference Championship that begins on Thursday, April 17. The Terriers will face Chattanooga at 3:00 p.m. Western Carolina is 14-9 overall and 4-3 in the SoCon.
