SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Wednesday afternoon, the Wofford College women's tennis team was defeated 6-1 by Furman University at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Paladins, ranked #41 in the nation, won two of the three doubles matches and then five of the six singles matches.
 
Furman won the first doubles match by a 6-1 score at the #2 position. At the #3 position, Chloe Elliott and Brianna Wilbur took a 4-3 lead before falling 6-4 as the Paladins clinched the doubles point. The #1 doubles match was tied at 5-5 when Furman broke serve for a 6-5 advantage. Breda Brennan and Lily Woods then broke serve for a tie at 6-6. In the tiebreaker, Wofford claimed a 7-3 win.
 
In singles, the Paladins took the #2 position by a 6-3, 6-2 score and added a 6-0, 6-4 win at the #1 position as they led the overall match by a 3-0 score. Chloe Elliott earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at the #6 position for the Terriers. The Paladins added a 7-6, 6-0 win at #5, a 7-5, 6-3 win at #3, and then a 7-5, 6-3 win at the #4 position to close out the match.
 
The Terriers (15-3, 4-2) will host Western Carolina on Saturday, April 12, for the final home match of the season and Senior Day. Furman is 17-3 overall and 6-0 in SoCon play. The Paladins retain possession of the yearly Pinson Cup by Bobby and Dixie Pinson, beloved friends of both the Furman and Wofford programs.
