SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Wofford Men's Soccer team opens its 50th season this Sunday on the road in Raleigh, North Carolina, at NC State. The Wolfpack enter the season at No. 14 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, with the action streaming on ACCNX.
 
Scouting the Terriers
Wofford finished its 2024 season with a record of 8-6-3, finishing third in the SoCon with a 3-2-0 conference record. Jakob Andersson returns to the All-SoCon Preseason Team for the second year in a row after providing five assists last campaign, closing in on the 20 career assists mark (17). The Terriers had 11 different goal scorers, led by returner Stewart Patnaud (4). Wofford enters the season with 15 newcomers and an entirely new staff, meaning more than half of the team will be new to Spartanburg. New head coach, Ryan Osborne, comes to the Terriers after serving as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Wisconsin for the past two seasons.
 
Scouting the Wolfpack
NC State finished its 2024 season with a 10-5-5 overall record, finishing ninth in the ACC with a 3-3-2 conference record. Despite falling to Virginia in the first round of the ACC tournament, the Wolfpack received an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament. They went on to beat Charlotte and No. 24 Georgetown before falling to No. 8 Marshall, 2-1. NC State hosts four players on the TopDrawer Soccer Preseason Top 100 Players to Watch List, including The USL 2 Player of the Year, Donavan Phillip. In their season-opening 2-0 win over Queens, the Wolfpack commanded the game, outshooting their opponent 23-3. Phillip and Nikola Markovic scored both goals before the 40-minute mark.
 
Series History
This will be the fourth meeting between Wofford and NC State. Their last head-to-head was in 2022, when the Wolfpack were victorious with a 4-0 finish.
