SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College rifle team opened the season on Saturday morning against UAB at the Joe E. Taylor Center rifle range. The Blazers came away with a 4,593 to 4,500 win over the Terriers.
 
Wofford was led by freshman Sam Nickless, who in his first collegiate match was second in air rifle with a 584 and seventh in small bore with a 548 to place fifth overall with an aggregate score of 1,132. Garett Dall was sixth overall with a 1,128, which included a fourth place in small bore at 559. Dall also led the team in centers with 46.
 
Oliver Guthrie had 1,120 aggregate and was fourth in air rifle at 578. Freshmen Anna Mottern (1,116) and Henry Sparra (1,109) also competed for the Terriers.
 
Overall, UAB's Piper Wentland was first in small bore (578), air rifle (594) and aggregate (1,172).
 
The Terriers will be back in action on Saturday, October 18, when they travel to Charleston to face The Citadel and Georgia Southern.
