SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced its weekly men's soccer honors with Wofford's Adam Celik receiving the nod for defensive player of the week. The selections are made by the league office.

The honor serves as the first of Celik's career. It also marks the first selection for the Terriers this season. The last time Wofford received a weekly honor was Declan Mettee on October 7, 2024. The last time they were awarded a defensive player of the week was Cameron Victor on October 10, 2023.

The Swedish defender played a pivotal role in the Terriers' 1-1 road draw against a formidable Sun Belt opponent, Georgia Southern. Coming into the match, GSU averaged 13.7 shots per game. Wofford was able to hold the electric attack to four shots, including two on goal, thanks to the leadership and organization provided by Celik. The sophomore found himself on the scoring sheet as well, finding the end of a deflected shot, to tie the game in the 57^th minute.

The Terriers return to play tonight against the Queens Royals on Snyder Field with kick-off at 7 p.m. Wofford looks to start conference play this weekend, hosting VMI on Saturday, October 4, for Senior Day. Both games are available for streaming on ESPN+
