Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | JJ Hernon

Men’s Soccer Falls to Duke

First Half

The Terriers started the first half strong, controlling possession and creating chances in Duke's half. They started the game with three close shots in the first 20 minutes, while Duke was only able to muster one. Wofford's first big chance of the half came in the 21st minute, with a shot from Taylor Bowen that forced a save from the goalkeeper. Wofford continued to control possession, but in the 42nd minute, the Terriers allowed a free kick in their own territory, which was crossed into the box to Duke's Sol Arbib, who knocked it in to put Duke up 1-0. The Terriers made an effort to respond before half, and in the 44th minute the Terriers had their best chance of the game with a volley by Max Talley, but the Duke goalkeeper was able to make a great save.

Second Half

Wofford continued to battle after halftime and were able to hold the deficit to one for a while, but in the 58th minute, after another Duke free kick, Ethan Congleton scored another goal to put Duke up 2-0. The Terriers continued to try and fight their way back into the game, and Franklin Spires had a good opportunity for a shot that went high, but they were unable to find the back of the net. In the 75th minute, Duke scored again, increasing the lead to 3-0, and ultimately closing out the game.
