Wofford Women’s Soccer Falls No.7 Mercer In SoCon Tournament

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Wofford College women's soccer team fell to Mercer, 3-2, in the opening round of the 2026 Southern Conference Tournament in Greenville on Friday night. The Bears, the #7 seed, had three goals early in the first half, and the #10 seed Terriers answered with one goal late in the first half and another in the second.

First Half
Mercer came into the match quickly controlling the possession, finding the back of the net just 1:41 into the match with a goal from Maggie Rollins on a corner kick.

Mercer found their second goal from a penalty kick from Olivia Bori. Another resounding goal came at 10:42 from Anna Bachman, putting it past Chloe Cundiff to make it an early 3-0 lead.

The Bears hold Wofford without a shot in the first 20 minutes of the match. Layla Washington had the first look at goal in the match for the Terriers with a shot that went out top at 22:11.

Delaney Minor scored her first collegiate goal and the Terriers first goal of the game with only seven minutes left in the half to make it 3-1 score at the end of the half

Second Half
Mercer came into the second half upping the intensity on offense, taking five shots in the first 12 minutes.

Wofford upped the ante on the offense throughout the half. The attacking paid off at 58:12, when Bella Drummond made it a one-goal game after putting it past Ariel Bernard right in the middle. Both teams struggled to find opportunities in the match, staying deadlocked at midfield for much of the remaining time.

With Wofford playing a woman down for the last six minutes, Wofford was unable to find an equalizer and force overtime, ending their season with a 3-2 loss.
