SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford baseball team had a walk-off single from
Harrison Campi to give the Terriers a 1-0 shutout win over NJIT Saturday night at Russell C. King Field. The game was delayed two hours due to weather, but the Terriers' defense didn't let the delay stop them.
"The pitchers did a great job filling it up to get zeros today,"
Harrison Campi said. "
Alec Bouchard and
Blayne Newman, along with our defense, did a great job."
Alec Bouchard got the start for the Terriers and went six innings, giving up four hits and striking out seven batters.
Blayne Newman pitched three innings in relief, giving up one hit and striking out five batters for his first win of the season.
Logan Tribble led the team with two hits, while
Harrison Campi had one hit and an RBI.
The game started off with a strong pitching game from junior
Alec Bouchard. Despite giving up four hits, Bouchard held the Highlanders without a run and struck out five batters to keep the Highlanders scoreless. Wofford had no trouble putting hits on the board, but when it came to bringing in runners on base, the Highlanders' defense would hold strong to keep the Terriers scoreless.
With game scoreless heading to the bottom of the ninth,
Lucas Manning led off with a single. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Alex Myers and Cade Colline was hit by a pitch. With two outs,
Harrison Campi had a 1-2 count and grounded the ball out to left field to bring in
Lucas Manning for the 1-0 walk-off win for the Terriers.
