SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's tennis team earned a 5-2 win over UNC Asheville on a cold and windy Sunday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers won a hard-fought doubles point and then took four of the six singles matches to secure the victory.
In doubles, Wofford had a 5-4 lead in all three matches. The Bulldogs took the #3 position by a 7-5 score. The matches at the #1 and #2 positions were tied at 6-6. In the tiebreaker at the #1 position,
Jack Deveney and
Valdemar Dubin won 7-5. At the #2 position,
Hugo Rask and
Julian Brager-Carlsen won 7-4 to clinch the doubles point for the Terriers.
Hugo Rask began singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the #5 position. After a Bulldog win at the #1 position,
Jack Deveney had a 6-4, 6-1 win at the #3 position.
Julian Brager-Carlsen clinched the overall match for Wofford with a 6-3, 6-3 win at the #4 position. The Bulldogs added a win at the #2 position before
Jack Burdell closed out the day with a three-set win at the #6 position.
"We stayed strong and demonstrated grit in tough conditions," said head coach
Rod Ray. "I'm proud of each guy for locking in today."
Wofford (6-4) will return to Southern Conference play on Sunday, March 1, at Samford.
