SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College men's tennis team won both matches in a doubleheader on Saturday at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers downed Emmanuel 4-0 in the first match and added a 4-1 win over Converse in the second match.
"Winning two matches in cold conditions says a lot about our toughness and focus," said head coach
Rod Ray. "We were tested and I'm proud of our response."
To open the day, the Terriers duo of
Julian Brager-Carlsen and
Valdemar Dubin had a 6-1 win at the #2 doubles position.
Jack Deveney and
Ian Rasheed had a 6-2 win at the #1 doubles position to clinch the doubles point. The #3 doubles match was unfinished with
Hugo Rask and Ben Reineaur tied at 4-4.
Singles began with Jack Deveny taking a 6-2, 6-0 win at the #3 position.
Jack Burdell followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the #5 position and Parker Marienchcck claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win at the #3 position to clinch the overall match for the Terriers. With the match clinched, the remaining three matches were not finished.
Julian Brager-Carlsen led 6-3, 6-5 at the #4 position and
Ian Rasheed led 6-2, 5-2 at the #6 position, while
Daniel Clivio was tied 5-7, 6-4 at the #1 position.
In the second match, Wofford earned a win at the #3 doubles position as
Hugo Rask and
Owen Dooley won 6-2. Converse responded with a 6-3 win at the #2 position. At the #1 position, Converse won 7-6 to earn the doubles point.
Jack Burdell opened singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the #5 position.
Julian Brager-Carlsen went 6-0, 6-1 at the #4 position and then
Jack Deveney added a 6-1, 6-2 win at the #2 position.
Daniel Clivio clinched the match for the Terriers at the #1 position with a 6-4, 6-4 win. The two remaining singles matches were unfinished, with both
Parker Mariencheck at the #3 position and
Ian Rasheed at the #6 position both leading after the first set.
Wofford improves to 3-2 on the season. The Terriers will open Southern Conference play on Monday, Feb. 9, when they host The Citadel at 2:00 p.m.
