SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Saturday, the Wofford College women's tennis team picked up sweeps of Emmanuel and Converse at the Reeves Tennis Center. Wofford won both matches by a 7-0 score.
"I am really proud of how we battled through the cold and wind to get two home wins today," said head coach
Krissy Hall.
In the first match, Emmanuel only fielded two doubles teams. The Wofford pair of
Quinn Bernthal and
Katie Godfree won 6-3 to clinch the doubles point. The #1 position was won by the Lions 6-3.
The singles matches began with
Grace Stout winning at the #6 position without an opponent.
Quinn Bernthal was leading 3-0 in the first set when her opponent retired.
Marie Henriksen won at the #5 position 6-0, 6-0 to clinch the overall match for the Terriers. The sweep would continue as
Grace Agster won 6-0, 6-0 at the #2 position,
Ella Suk won 6-2, 6-0 at the #4 position, and
Katie Godfree won 6-0, 6-0 at the #3 position.
The second match began with Wofford winning all three doubles matches by a 6-0 margin. In singles,
Katie Godfree won 6-1, 6-1 at the #3 position.
Quinn Bernthal won 6-0, 6-1 at the #2 position and
Grace Agster won 6-2, 6-1 at the #1 position to clinch the overall match. Wofford added wins at #4 by
Ella Suk (6-2, 6-2), at #5 by
Chloe Elliott (6-0, 6-0), and at #6 by
Grace Stout (6-2, 6-1) to complete the sweep.
Wofford improves to 2-1 on the season. Up next for the Terriers will be a home match on Thursday, Feb. 12, against North Greenville.
