JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – To open Southern Conference play, the Wofford College women's tennis team was defeated 6-1 by East Tennessee State University on Friday afternoon at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex. The Terriers swept the three doubles matches, but the Bucs responded by winning all three singles matches.
Wofford opened doubles with
Chloe Elliott and
Ella Suk winning 6-4 at the #2 position. A win by
Katie Godfree and
Marie Henriksen at the #3 position by a 6-4 score clinched the doubles point for the Terriers. At the #1 position,
Grace Agster and
Quinn Bernthal were tied at 6-6 and won the tiebreaker 7-4 to complete the sweep.
In singles, the Buccaneers won at the #6, #3, #4 and #5 positions in straight sets to secure the overall match. They added 6-4, 7-5 wins at both the #2 and #1 positions to end match.
Wofford is 6-4 overall and 0-1 in the SoCon. They will visit Coastal Carolina on Sunday, March 15, for a 10:00 a.m. match that was postponed due to snow in February. The Buccaneers, 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the SoCon, are ranked #75 nationally.
