SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College women's tennis team wrapped up non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon with a 4-3 win over UNC Asheville at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers swept all three doubles matches and then won three of the six singles matches to claim the overall match.
In doubles,
Chloe Elliott and
Ella Suk had a 6-0 win at the #2 position.
Grace Agster and
Quinn Bernthal clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win at the #2 position, which was followed by a 6-2 win at the #3 position by
Katie Godfree and
Marie Henriksen to complete the sweep.
Singles began with
Quinn Bernthal winning at the #2 position when her opponent retired after the first game. The Bulldogs won at the #1 and #6 positions in straight sets to tie the overall match at 2-2. With a 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 win at the #3 position by
Katie Godfree, the Terriers went back in front.
The Bulldogs tied the overall match at 3-3 after a straight set win at the #4 position. In the deciding match at the #5 position,
Chloe Elliott lost the first set 6-4, but rallied to win the second and third sets by a 7-5 score to secure the match for the Terriers.
"I am so proud of the way we competed today," said head coach
Krissy Hall. "We started off strong in doubles and showed great resiliency throughout singles. It was a total team win."
Wofford is 7-5 overall and 0-1 in the SoCon. The Terriers will return to SoCon play on Saturday, March 21, at Chattanooga.
