CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – On Saturday, the Wofford College women's tennis team was defeated 7-0 by Chattanooga at the UTC Tennis Center. The Mocs won the doubles point that was decided in a tiebreaker and then won all six singles matches.
The #1 doubles position was tied at 4-4 before
Grace Agster and
Quinn Bernthal won two straight games for a 6-4 win. At #2 doubles,
Chloe Elliott and
Ella Suk were tied at 5-5, but the Mocs pulled out a 7-5 win. In the deciding doubles point at the #3 position,
Katie Godfree and
Marie Henriksen were tied at 6-6 before falling 9-7 in the tiebreaker.
In singles, the Mocs won the first set in all six matches. They took the matches at the #3, #4 and #5 positions in straight sets, which clinched the overall match. The remaining three matches were all decided in three sets. At the #1 position,
Grace Agster lost the first set 6-1, but won the second set 6-3 before falling 6-4 in the third set.
Marie Henriksen lost the first set at the #6 position 6-0 before winning the second set 6-3. The Mocs won the third set 6-2. In the final match to conclude at the #2 position,
Quinn Bernthal lost the first set 6-1, but responded with a 6-1 win in set two. The Mocs won 6-3 in the third set to complete the singles sweep.
Wofford is 7-6 overall and 0-2 in the SoCon and will host UNC Greensboro on Thursday, March 26 at 2:00 p.m. The Mocs are now 12-2 overall and 2-0 in the SoCon.
