Women’s Tennis Downs UNC Greensboro 5-2

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College women's tennis team earned a 5-2 win over UNC Greensboro on Thursday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers won the doubles point and took four of the six singles matches to earn their first SoCon win of the season.
 
In doubles, the Terriers and Spartans were tied at 3-3 at both the #1 and #2 positions. Grace Agster and Quinn Bernthal closed out a 6-4 win at the #1 position. At the #2 position, Chloe Elliott and Ella Suk came away with a 6-3 win that clinched the doubles point for the Terriers. At the #3 position, Katie Godfree and Marie Henriksen were up 4-3 but were defeated 7-5.
 
The Terriers began singles play with Katie Godfree picking up a 6-1, 6-1 win at the #3 position. Quinn Bernthal added a 6-2, 6-2 win at the #2 position before the Spartans had a win at the #5 position. At the #4 position, Ella Suk won the first set 6-4 and the second set was tied at 4-4 before she took the next two games for a 6-4 win that clinched the overall match for Wofford. The Spartans added a win at the #6 position.
 
The final match to conclude was at the #1 position. Grace Agster lost the first set 7-5. She won the second set 7-6, with a 7-5 tiebreaker. In the third set tiebreaker, it was tied at 6-all and 8-all before Agster won the final two points to take it 10-8.
 
"I am so proud of our energy, grit, and play today," said head coach Krissy Hall. "We competed smart and with a purpose throughout both doubles and singles. This was a complete team win!"
 
Wofford is 8-6 overall and 1-2 in the SoCon and will remain at home and host Samford on Saturday, March 28 at 12:00 p.m. The Spartans are 2-14 overall and 0-4 in league play.
