SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's tennis team was defeated 6-1 by Chattanooga on Saturday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Mocs won the doubles point in a tiebreaker and then won five of the six singles matches.
In doubles, the Mocs took the #3 position by a 6-3 score. Wofford answered as
Parker Mariencheck and
Hugo Rask won 6-4 at the #2 position. In the deciding match at the #1 position,
Jack Deveney and
Valdemar Dubin were down 5-4 before taking a 6-5 lead. With the match tied at 6-6, the tiebreaker was won 7-1 by the Mocs to clinch the doubles point.
Singles began with
Jack Burdell winning by retirement at the #6 position after winning the first set 6-2. The Mocs then won in straight sets at the #1, #3, #2, and #4 positions. At the #5 position,
Hugo Rask lost the first set 6-2 before a 6-4 win in set two. Down 4-1 in the third set, Rask took a 5-4 lead before falling 7-5.
Wofford (6-8, 1-3) will travel to East Tennessee State on Friday, March 27 for a 1:00 p.m. match. The Mocs are now 7-8 overall and 2-0 in the SoCon.
