Women’s Tennis Wins 5-2 At Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Wofford College women's tennis team earned a 5-2 road win over Longwood on Wednesday morning at the New Lancer Courts. Longwood won the doubles point, but the Terriers won five of the six singles matches for the victory.
 
In doubles, Quinn Bernthal and Katie Godfree won 6-3 at the #2 position. The Lancers answered with a win at the #1 position. The #3 position was tied at 4-4, but the Lancers pulled away for a 4-4 win to clinch the doubles point.
 
Wofford won the first set in four of the six singles matches. Quinn Bernthal had a 6-0, 6-4 win at the #2 position. Grace Agster lost the first set 6-4 but responded with 6-1 and 6-3 wins to take the point at the #1 position. Chloe Elliott added a 7-6, 6-0 win at the #5 position to give the team a 3-1 lead in the overall match.
 
The Lancers won at the #3 position in three sets. The final two singles matches were also decided in three sets. At the #6 position, Grace Stout won the first set 6-4 but lost the second set 6-4 before a 6-2 win in the third set clinched the overall match for the Terriers. At the #4 position, Ella Suk lost the first set and rallied to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-2.
 
"I am really proud of the way we bounced back after losing the doubles point," said head coach Krissy Hall. "We came out really strong in singles and competed hard. It was a complete team win."
 
Wofford (4-3) will return home on Friday, March 6, for a match against North Carolina Central.
