Women’s Tennis Earns 6-1 Win Over N.C. Central

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On a warm Friday afternoon, the Wofford College women's tennis team earned a 6-1 win over North Carolina Central. The Terriers swept the doubles matches for the point and then won five of the six singles matches.
 
After falling behind in all three doubles matches, the Terriers responded. At the #3 position, Grace Stout and Ella Suk were down 1-0 before coming away with a 6-4 win. Chloe Elliott and Katie Godfree trailed 4-3 but won the next three games for a 6-4 win that clinched the doubles point. At the #1 position, Grace Agster and Quinn Bernthal trailed 5-3 and won four straight games for a 7-5 win.
 
Wofford won the first set in five of the six singles matches. Quinn Bernthal won 6-3, 6-1 at the #2 position, and the Eagles picked up a point at the #4 position. Katie Godfree won in three sets at the #3 position, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. At the #5 position, Chloe Elliott had a three-set win at 6-3, 1-6, 6-2, which clinched the overall match for the Terriers. Marie Henriksen added a 7-5, 6-3 win at the #6 position. Grace Agster's match at the #1 position lasted nearly three hours as she had a 7-6 (7-1) tiebreaker win in the first set, and then the second set was also decided in a tiebreaker at 7-6 (7-3) for the victory.
 
"I am really impressed with the way we competed in both singles and doubles today," said head coach Krissy Hall. "It was a very competitive match, and we showed great energy and determination from start to finish."
 
The match against the Eagles (2-6) was originally scheduled for February 17. Wofford (4-3) will be back at the Reeves Tennis Center on Saturday, March 7, for an 11:00 a.m. match.
