SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's tennis team was defeated 5-2 by Belmont on Thursday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers won a close doubles point before the Bruins won five of the six singles matches for the win.
In doubles,
Ian Rasheed and
Daniel Clivio earned a 6-4 win at the #3 position. At the #1 position, the Wofford pair of
Jack Deveney and
Valdemar Dubin were tied at 5-5 and 6-6. In the tiebreaker, the Terriers won 7-5 to clinch the doubles point. The match at the #2 position was unfinished with
Hugo Rask and
Julian Brager-Carlsen tied at 5-5 with the Bruins.
Single play began with the Bruins taking the first set in all six matches. Belmont had wins at the #2 and #5 positions. They added wins at the #3 and #1 positions to clinch the overall match. The final two matches went three sets. The Bruins won at the #6 position, but
Julian Brager-Carlsen lost the first set before winning the next two sets 6-4, 6-3 to win the match.
Wofford (6-6) will host Davidson on Sunday, March 8, at 1:00 p.m.
