SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 7-0 win over King University at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers won all three doubles matches and then swept all six singles matches. Prior to the contest, senior
Ian Rasheed was recognized in his final home match.
King won the first game in each of the three singles matches. The #3 pairing of
Owen Dooley and
Ian Rasheed claimed a 6-1 win. At the #2 position,
Hugo Rask and
Parker Mariencheck were down 2-1 before pulling away for a 6-4 win to clinch the doubles point. At the #1 position,
Jack Deveney and
Valdemar Dubin were up 5-3, but the Tornado rallied to tie the match at 6-6. In the tiebreaker, the Terriers won 7-2 to complete the doubles sweep.
Wofford won the first set in all six singles matches. Daniel Clivo won 6-1, 6-2 at the #4 position and
Jack Burdell finished next with a 6-2, 6-0 win at the #5 position.
Ian Rasheed clinched the overall match for the Terriers with his 6-2, 6-2 Senior Day victory.
Hugo Rask added a 6-4, 6-2 win at the #2 position and
Jack Deveney had a 6-3, 6-4 win at the #3 position.
The lone match to go three sets was at the #1 position.
Parker Mariencheck won the first set 6-3, but the Tornado won the second set 6-0. In the deciding set, he was up 5-4 and held serve for the 6-4 win to complete the sweep.
"I'm pleased with our execution, effort, and mindset," said head coach
Rod Ray. "There's no question we got stronger today."
Wofford (7-11, 1-6) will begin play at the 2026 Southern Conference Championship on Thursday, April 16, against #2 seed Samford at 3:00 p.m. The Tornado is 7-15 overall.
