Women’s Tennis Earns Road Win At Western Carolina

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – In the final road match of the season, the Wofford College women's tennis team earned a 6-1 win over Western Carolina at the Catamount Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon. The Terriers won two of the three doubles matches and then won five of the six singles matches.
 
In doubles, Wofford won the #3 position by default. Chloe Elliott and Ella Suk had a 6-0 win at the #2 position that clinched the doubles point for the Terriers. At the #1 position, Grace Agster and Quinn Bernthal were down 5-1 before coming back to tie the match at 5-5. With the match tied at 6-6, the Catamounts won the tiebreaker by a 10-8 score.
 
With the Catamounts having only four players available in singles, Chloe Elliott and Marie Henriksen had forfeit wins at the #5 and #6 positions, respectively. Ella Suk was able to clinch the overall match with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the #4 position. Quinn Bernthal added a 6-3, 6-4 win at the #2 position before the Catamounts earned a win at the #1 position. Wofford closed out singles play with a 6-4, 7-5 win by Katie Godfree at the #3 position.
 
"I was really proud of our energy and mindset today," said head coach Krissy Hall. "We battled hard on all courts and found ways to win."
 
The Terriers (10-7, 3-3) will host Mercer on Friday, April 10, for the final regular season match. After the contest, the team will recognize senior Chloe Elliott. Wofford has now recorded ten or more wins for four straight seasons. Western Carolina is 2-16 overall and 0-6 in the Southern Conference.
