Men’s Soccer’s Season Opener Ruled a No Contest Due to Lightning

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.-- The Wofford men's team played 73 minutes of scoreless soccer against Gardner-Webb in their first match of the season, but after lightning strikes in the area, the game was ultimately ruled a No Contest
First Half
Wofford struggled to possess the ball in the first half and, as a result, had zero corners to Gardner-Webb's seven, and were outshot nine to zero. The Runnin' Bulldogs also had four shots on target in the first half, which were kept out of the net by strong defensive efforts from Pepe Hinterschuster and Scott Cheevers. Hinterschuster had three first-half saves, including a diving effort to prevent what should've been a great goal in the 36th minute. Cheevers had several header clearances and a block that prevented a goal.
Second Half
The Terriers picked up the pace in the second half, but both teams were unable to get anything going. In the 73rd minute, the game was postponed due to lightning, and after around an hour of waiting, the game was ruled a No Contest.
