CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Wofford men's soccer team drew even with UNC Charlotte, finishing 1-1 on Monday night at Jen Gaber Field. The Terriers tied the match against the 49ers in the 79th minute after a stunning header goal from sophomore
Bear Rice.
First Half
The Terriers went down early after a deflection in the goal box resulted in a goal for 49ers midfielder Tate Asante just two minutes into the match. Charlotte dominated possession for the rest of the half, outshooting Wofford eight to one. The Terriers' one shot was a powerful volley by
Bradley Takamo that went inches wide.
Second Half
In the second half, the Terriers began to push the pace, starting to shift possession in their favor, and were even with Charlotte in shots, with 6 apiece, including a powerful shot from
Bear Rice that nearly tied the game. They were also able to make some deep runs into the 49ers' half, and drew several free kicks early. In the 67th minute, Wofford's goalkeeper
Pepe Hinterschuster was injured on a diving save after taking a knee from a Charlotte attacker. Goalkeeper
Evan Morris stepped up in his absence with a leaping save in the 72nd minute. Finally,
Bear Rice tied up the game with a well-placed header off of a perfect corner taken by
Clemens Astrup in the 79
th minute.
