Volleyball Falls to High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Wofford College volleyball team fell in three sets to High Point University on Thursday evening at the Millis Center. The Terriers drop to 6-4 on the season while High Point improves to 5-4.
 
Chloe Smith led the team with 13 kills on a .364 hitting percentage. Natalie Arnold and Bradley Brown followed behind with eight kills each. Maddy Frazier posted a team-high 17 assists while Taylor Pecht dished out 12. Frazier recorded the lone ace of the match for Wofford.
 
Laney Klika led the defensive efforts with 14 digs, along with 12 from Taylor Pecht for her third double-double of the season. Charlotte Bell finished the night with three blocks.
 
Wofford closed the night with 39 kills on a .237 hitting percentage while High Point posted 47 kills on a .307 percentage. The Panthers had two aces compared to Wofford's one. High Point totaled five blocks while Wofford had four.
 
High Point gained an early 10-6 lead to begin the first set of the match, but Wofford scored three-straight points to bring the deficit to one. The Panthers responded, scoring six of the next eight points to stretch their lead back to 16-11. The Terriers continued to chip away at the lead but would lose set one 25-23.
 
Both teams were knotted at four-all early in set two, but High Point gained a 7-4 advantage after three-straight points. The Terriers cut the deficit to one-point multiple times, including a 13-12 score. High Point took a 15-12 lead into the media timeout, however. Trailing 23-18 later in the set, Wofford managed to rattle off four-straight points to bring the set to within one point, 23-22, once again. High Point responded with back-to-back points to win the set 25-22.
 
With both teams tied at 4-4 in set three, Wofford scored three-straight points to gain a 7-4 advantage. The team turned that into a 10-6 lead, but High Point went on a 7-0 run take 13-10 lead over Wofford. The Terriers were able to tie the set at 16-all. The Panthers again responded with four-straight points to move the deficit back to four points, 20-16. Wofford could not complete the comeback, losing set three 25-20 and the match 3-0.
 
The Terriers will look to respond tomorrow afternoon against Wake Forest at 4:00 p.m. The final match of the High Point Invitational can be streamed live on ESPN+.
