Men’s Golf Ties for 10th in Rod Myers Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. – The Wofford men's golf team finished in 10th place at the Rod Myers Invitational, which was hosted by Duke at the Duke University Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday. The tournament was originally scheduled to go three rounds, but due to a lightning delay during round two, the third round was ultimately cancelled. The Terriers finished with a score of 579 and were led by senior Miller Carr, who tied for 23rd, finishing one under par with a score of 143.
 
The Terriers were three over par as a unit, with rounds of 289 and 290 over the two-day event. UNCG claimed the team title in the tournament by five strokes, with a total score of 556. In addition to Wofford and UNCG, Furman was the third representative of the SoCon at the tournament, and they finished tied for seventh place out of 13 total teams. Vijay Powell from George Mason placed first individually with a 134 (-10).
 
Miller Carr was consistent throughout the tournament, finishing at or under par in both rounds. He posted a 71 in round one with five birdies and a 72 in round two with three birdies, scoring a total of eight birdies across the two days.
 
Andrew Aquino and Cameron Sharp came in close behind Carr in the standings. Aquino tied for 35th, finishing one over par with a score of 145. He posted scores of 73 and 72 across both days, racking up 11 birdies. Sharp finished tied for 29th with a score of 144 while competing as an individual. He scored a 71 in round one and a 73 in round two, finishing exactly at par.
 
Andrew Neal, Will Brown, and Banks Steele rounded out the lineup for the Terriers. Neal tied for 53rd place, Brown tied for 70th place, and Steele placed 75th in his first collegiate tournament. Neal finished with a score of 149 (74, 75), Brown finished with a score of 151 (80, 71), and Steele finished with a score of 154 (71, 83).
 
Wofford returns to action next week at the Bryan Bros Collegiate in Columbia, South Carolina. The two-day tournament hosted by the University of South Carolina is set for September 28 and 29.
