SPARTANBURG, S.C.—The Wofford men's soccer team drew even with Coastal Carolina 1-1 on Tuesday night at Snyder Field. The Terriers extended their unbeaten streak to four games, but were unable to secure the win despite a heroic solo goal from
Taylor Bowen late in the first half.
First Half
Wofford went down early in the first half after a goal in the 11th minute from Isaac Busenze and were forced to play catch-up. They rose to the occasion and began to put the pressure on the Chanticleers with two powerful shots on goal from
Adam Celik to swing the momentum their way. They continued to keep the pressure on Coastal Carolina, and finally, in the 40th minute,
Taylor Bowen was able to capitalize on a mistake by the Chanticleers goalkeeper and score his second goal of the season after stealing the ball from him in the box.
Second Half
After an hour-long weather delay, Wofford came out of halftime like they were shot out of a cannon. They controlled possession and were screaming up and down Coastal Carolina's half of the field. The Chanticleers had a lot of difficulty even getting the ball out of their own half, as every time they would regain possession, their crosses and through balls would be stopped almost immediately by the Terriers' back line and quickly sent back to the Wofford attackers. Wofford outshot Coastal Carolina six-to-one in the second half, including shots on goal from
Henry Boner and
Bradley Takamo, but ultimately the Terriers were unable to find a game-winner before time expired.
On Tuesday, September 29, Wofford (5-1-3) will travel to Clemson, South Carolina, to play #14 Clemson in their first road game since September 8.
