Men’s Soccer Falls to #9 Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Wofford men's soccer team lost to #9 Clemson 4-1 on Tuesday night at Historic Riggs Field. The Terriers held firm against the Tigers for much of the game, but several late goals pushed Clemson across the finish line.

First Half

Wofford and Clemson started the game going back and forth with runs and chances in each other's boxes. Taylor Bowen had a good chance with a shot on goal within the first minute of the game that was saved by the goalkeeper. In the 13th minute, the Terriers had a beautiful set of passes that led to a nice shot by Bradley Takamo, but that was also saved by Clemson's keeper. In the 42nd minute, Clemson forward Duncan Wilson finished a header off a long cross into the box to open the scoring for Clemson.

Second Half

Very early in the second half, center back Adam Celik drew a Clemson foul in the box on a set piece, earning Wofford a penalty kick. Senior midfielder Fabian Menendez easily put the penalty away for Wofford's first goal of the night and his third goal of the season. The Terriers were able to hold the draw for a good portion of the second half, but in the 66th minute Olafur Floki Stevenson scored to push Clemson ahead 2-1. Wofford stayed in the game and fought for the equalizer, but in the 81st and 85th minutes, Clemson scored two more goals to put the game out of reach.
