BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Wofford men's soccer team picked up another win on Saturday night against Campbell, beating them 2-1 at the Eakes Athletics Complex. This extended their winning streak to three games, and their unbeaten streak to four. Seniors
Max Talley and
Franklin Spires each contributed goals to push the Terriers to victory.
First Half
The first half started off slowly for both sides, with heavy possession but not many opportunities either way. As the game progressed both the Terriers and Camels were able to make some headway with a one-on-one opportunity from
Sam Case, and several corners drawn by Campbell. Finally, in the 38th minute,
Max Talley was able to break through the Campbell back line to score off a beautiful pass by
Fabian Menendez, putting Wofford up 1-0 at half.
Second Half
Wofford picked up where they left off in the second half and began to put pressure on Campbell immediately. They controlled the possession in Campbell's half and in the 57th minute
Franklin Spires put away the second goal of the night for the Terriers, off an assist from
Henry Boner. Wofford began to play more defensively after Spires' goal, and allowed Campbell to be more aggressive and have a few shots. They held them off until the 84th minute when Campbell was able to force a Wofford own goal.
"They were desperate to win, and they tried everything they could and caused us some problems," said Wofford head coach
Ryan Osborne about the Campbell squad. "Credit to our guys for finding a way to win, and digging deep when it counted most."
