The official live Boston terrier mascots of the Wofford College Athletic Department
What's in the name?
Where does the moniker "Blitz" comes from? It has no connection to Wofford at all, however handling a Boston that is on the prowl or eager to get somewhere is similar to an all-out blitz put on by a charging defensive line and linebackers. So, while our breed of mascot may be small, the energy and speed by which they attack brings us to the name "Blitz." The lineage of Wofford's Boston terrier mascots are primarily called upon to attend only football games so the name fits nicely into the dog's main purpose for the College as well.
Blitz III "Magnolia"
Aug. 30, 2014 -2019
Upon the retirement of Blitz II in the fall of 2013, the nomination process began to find the next official Boston terrier mascot. A group of nominated bostons were identified and a blind vote commenced in February 2014 which included feedback from over 65 Wofford students, faculty, staff and fans. From the voting process, Blitz III "Magnolia", came out on top and was officially named the third official live Boston terrier of the "modern era" (since 2003) on May 14, 2014.
"Magnolia" becomes by far the youngest boston to be named the official mascot as she was born August 24, 2013 in Cumming, GA. Her owner is Leah Harris '05 of Atlanta and she made her official debut on the football sidelines for a virtual "home game" on August 30, 2014 when the Terriers visited Georgia Tech. Some fans may recognize Magnolia as she accompanied Leah to the final home football game of 2013 and was quite popular at the Terrier Tulles merchandise booth on the plaza. Little did Magnolia know how important her role would become at Wofford football games just a year later!
Blitz II "Ayeryel"
Sept. 20, 2008 - Nov. 16, 2013
"Ayeryel" began her role as the Wofford mascot as a 'walk-on' substitute for the original Blitz at South Carolina on September 20, 2008. At the time, that was considered a fill-in role since no health problems were known for Blitz at the time. When Blitz passed away, Ayeryel assumed the role of interim mascot for the remainder of the 2008 season. She took over as the second official mascot of the Wofford athletic department at the beginning of the 2009 football season and thus also assumed the name of Blitz II.
"Ayeryel" is named for head football coach Mike Ayers by her owner Heather Rogers '03 of Columbia, S.C. Heather was a cheerleader during her time at Wofford. "Ayeryel" retired from duty at the end of the 2013 football season,
here is a link to her official retirement release. She was awarded an honorary varsity letter on October 26, 2013. "Ayeryel" enjoyed the Terrier tailgates more in her retirements years! She passed away at her home in Columbia, May 23, 2017.

Blitz "Ka-Dee"
Sept. 6, 2003-Sept. 6, 2008
Blitz, debuted on September 6, 2003 as the “official” mascot of the Athletic Department. Blitz (real name "Ka-Dee") was a pure bred Boston Terrier owned by Chris and Jean Williams of Spartanburg. Complete with her specially-designed log cabin dog home made by Blue Ridge Log Cabins, Blitz roamed the sidelines in front of the student section during every home football Saturday at Gibbs Stadium. Blitz did not missed a home game from 2003-08 and traveled with the football team to Western Carolina, The Citadel, Furman, Delaware, South Carolina and North Carolina State.
During the final home game of 2006, the Athletic Department honored Blitz with a varsity letter for completion of her fourth season as the official mascot of the Terriers. Blitz also visited several Spartanburg area elementary schools during a January 2007 Sports Marketing interim class as part of the "Tour of the Terrier."
Blitz passed away on October 9, 2008, just two days before Homecoming, during surgery to remove an abdominal mass found only a day prior. Below is the record of the football team with Blitz in attendance at the stadium for games. Blitz won her first game in 2003 against South Carolina State (35-13) and the last game she roamed the sidelines in 2008 against Charleston Southern (41-23). Ironically those two games fell on the same date - September 6 - five years apart.

"Boss the Terrier " #18-54
The fearless leader of the Terriers, "Boss" (short for Boston terrier) has entertained Wofford fans since 2001 at football, basketball and baseball contests and countless community and school events. For football, basketball and baseball, Boss comes with custom helmet or hat and uniforms for each sport. Boss is also the only mascot in the NCAA with his own holiday, October 16 is National Boss's Day. Well, maybe it's not just for him but we let him think so.
"Terri"
In 2013, Boss was joined by his cheerleader sister "Terri". Terri (short for terrier, I mean if Boss is short for Boston...) will make a number of special appearances primarily at football and women's athletic events, plus school visits and our annual Girl Scout Sports Day.
