Girl Scout Day at Wofford

The first part of the Second Annual "Girl Scout Day" at Wofford took place on Saturday, October 27th.  More than 180 Girl Scouts and 60 leaders participated in the event.

Players and coaches from the Wofford Women's Basketball, Soccer, and Volleyball teams led the scouts through the fundamental skills of each sport, conditioning and stretching, and a film station.

"The Girl Scouts of South Carolina Mountains to Midlands (GSSCMM) appreciates the way Wofford College reaches out to the local community of youth, especially our girl population.  This yearly event of a Girl Scouts Sports Day with Wofford is quickly becoming a valuable partnership.  Girls in grades K-5 to eighth grade are being exposed to NCAA student-athletes while being challenged to become physically fit and set high academic goals that will set them up for a lifetime of success," says Sara Street, regional program manager for GSSCMM.

The Girl Scouts capped off their day with a patch ceremony between the second and third games of the volleyball match versus Elon.

Part 2 of this partnership will invite the participating Girl Scout troops back to Wofford to watch a women's basketball game on January 5, 2008, as the Terriers take on Furman at 6:00 pm.
