Nick received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wofford College in 1990. After spending his first seven years after graduation in foodservice sales, Nick and co-owner John Bauknight ‘89 began working on the idea for a document destruction company, and in October 1997, Shred First, LLC officially opened its doors. In August 2006, Shred First sold the paper shredding division of the business to Cintas Document Management. Since then, Nick has been focusing on growing the other companies in the Longleaf Holdings family, which include: Total Records & Information Management, Total Product Destruction, Total Training Services, Total Storage Services, Longleaf Development, Longleaf Holdings, and RJ Rockers Brewing Co.

Nick continues to serve the Spartanburg community through his membership at First Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg, where he is the Jr. High Sunday School Teacher and a Deacon. In addition, he is a member of the Leadership South Carolina Class of 2005, a member of the Spartanburg Regional Foundation Board, as well as a past member of the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Board from 2000-2005, serving as the Board Chair in 2005. Nick is also the 2010 Treasurer of the Spartanburg Regional Foundation. Nick, and his business partner John E. Bauknight ’89, have endowed an athletic scholarship reserved for student-athletes on the football team who exhibit academic promise, leadership, and a strong moral character, as determined by the head football coach.
