Cleveland S. Harley ‘50 is an institution in Spartanburg, serving the community as a successful businessman and a strong supporter of education. He was the President of the Wofford College Alumni Association, founder and President of the Eleven Club, and is a Lifetime Member of the Terrier Club. Mr. Harley has also given his time and leadership to the Spartanburg County Board of Higher Education. Cleveland S. Harley was recognized as the Outstanding Philanthropist for 2007 at the Association of Fundraising Professionals (Piedmont Chapter), and received the Order of the Palmetto from Gov. Mark Sanford. Mr. Harley and his wife, Curtis, also received the Southern Conference Distinguished Service Award in 2006 for their generosity to every aspect of the College.
The Curtis R. and Cleveland S. Harley Endowed Scholarship Fund, as well as the Cleveland S. and Curtis R. Harley Family Endowed Scholarship Fund, matched with gifts from the estate of
Mrs. Homozel Mickel Daniels. The Curtis R./Cleveland S. Endowed Scholarship Fund is given without restriction to a particular sport, while the Harley Family Endowed Scholarship Fund is awarded to a student-athlete on the football team.
