Eli Sanders

Eli Sanders attended Wofford on a football scholarship and graduated in 1954. He was inducted into the Wofford Athletics Hall of Fame in 1991. Sanders and his brother founded Sanders Brothers Construction Company in the early 1960s on the principles of hard work, customer satisfaction, quality products, and service. Sanders still serves the North Charleston (S.C.)-based company as president and treasurer. He credits his success in business to his educational experiences at Wofford – both in the classroom and on the playing field.

In addition to his consistent and generous annual financial support of scholarships for student-athletes, he has served several terms on the Terrier Club Board of Directors, and recently funded the renovation of the first floor of the Wofford’s Main Building. He and his wife, Helen Gregory Sanders, have two sons, Greg and Eli, who recently established a scholarship fund in Eli’s honor. The Eli F. Sanders Endowed Football Scholarship Fund is awarded to a student-athlete on the football team who exhibits outstanding character, good citizenship, possesses leadership qualities, and demonstrates financial need.
